John Kalafatas

John Kalafatas is a Portfolio Manager at the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation. He brings over 15 years of leadership experience managing, consulting to, and researching mission-driven organizations in youth development, education, arts, environment, health care, and philanthropy. His expertise includes leadership development, nonprofit management, operations, social entrepreneurship, strategic planning, organizational development, and capacity building.


Prior to joining the Foundation, John served on the management team of City Year, Inc., a national youth development and citizen service organization. As Director of Strategic Planning & Organizational Development and then as Regional Director, he played a central role designing and implementing City Year's strategy for impact, sustainability, and scale. John also worked as a consultant to nonprofits with KublerWirka, Inc. and as a Senior Associate at Duke University's Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship and at Harvard Business School's Social Enterprise Initiative. At the Harvard Development Office, John served as a corporate fundraiser during the University's $2.1 billion campaign.


John earned his bachelor's degree at Tufts University, earned an MBA from Harvard Business School, and is a graduate of the National Outdoor Leadership School.
