2008 Supporting and Venture Fund Grants

Supporting Grants

To assist youth-serving grantees become more effective in their work, the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation makes a limited number of targeted grants to intermediary organizations that provide specialized training and expertise in the areas of evaluation and performance tracking; strategy development and refinement; talent recruitment, retention and development; communications; board strengthening; and fundraising. The Bridgespan Group, Inc.

Boston, MA - $1,974,000 over one year to provide consulting support to the Foundation's grantees on business planning and ongoing strategic planning and assistance, as well as provide advisory support on the Foundation's Youth Development Fund grantmaking strategy.

Goodman Media International, Inc.

New York, NY - $57,600 over six months to provide communications and media consultation services to EMCF's Youth Development Fund grantees.

LWP, LLC

Boston, MA - $380,000 over six months to conduct a feasibility analysis and, if warranted, develop a business plan for the launch of an entity that will provide coaching to nonprofit executives on organizational development and change management.


New York University

New York, NY - $310,500 over six months to support work by the University's Research Center for Leadership in Action.  The Center is conducting two pilot projects to assist EMCF grantees on their efforts to strengthen their boards and staff talent and leadership initiatives.

Policy Link

Oakland, CA - $150,000 over one year to develop federal and state-level policy recommendations that ensure successful replication of Harlem Children's Zone's core program components in other communities.

RPC, LLP

New York, NY - $70,000 over nine months to provide executive coaching support to Good Shepherd Services strengthen the organization's senior leadership team, advance program evaluation and quality improvement initiatives, and further develop its board.




Venture Fund

The Foundation also makes a very limited number of grants through its Venture Fund to support projects or make investments in organizations that fall outside its current Youth Development strategy, but help advance its overall mission. The Foundation also uses Venture Fund grants to advance areas that are essential to the long-term quality and effectiveness of its work, such as evaluation, communications and philanthropy.

Note: The Foundation does not accept unsolicited applications for supporting grants or for the Venture Fund.


Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Southeast Louisiana

New Orleans, LA - $150,000 over one year to support continued rebuilding efforts to re-establish mentoring services to youth living in regions affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
