Santa Monica, CA - $82,500 over one year to support the development of communications materials and tools that will enhance the outreach and fundraising activities of the Foundation's Youth Development Fund grantees.

Communications Leadership Institute

Washington, DC - $44,000 over one year to support the participation of executive directors of Foundation's Youth Development Fund grantees in an intensive, year-long communications training and strategy development program.

The Council for Excellence in Government

Washington, DC - $80,000 over two years to support efforts by the Coalition for Evidence-Based Policy to make research tools easier and more available to use as a way to advance evidence-based practice and policy in youth development.

Nonprofit Finance Fund

New York, NY - $700,000 over four years to support the Comprehensive Capitalization Initiative, to develop products and resources to help funders, policymakers, and nonprofit managers, understand, plan and manage the capitalization needs of nonprofits, and provide financial consulting services to the Foundation’s grantees.

NPower

Seattle, WA - $500,000 over two years to support the partnership between NPower and CompuMentor and its efforts to assist the Foundation's grantees make more effective use of information technology.

OMG Center for Collaborative Learning

Philadelphia, PA - $40,000 over one year to support the Evaluation Roundtable, which brings together senior program and evaluation staffs from funders interested in improving evaluation practices within their foundations and across the field.

Special Disaster Relief

In 2005, the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation made special, one-time grants to assist two grantees, Boys and Girls Clubs of America and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, whose operations were badly damaged and their ability to serve youth significantly disrupted by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.


Boys and Girls Clubs of America

Atlanta, GA - $300,000 over one year to support the organization's effort to rebuild its services to young people affected by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. BGCA will support the day-to-day operational costs of 16 damaged or destroyed clubs that served over 24,000 young people, while working on the longer-term task of assisting local clubs rebuild their operations.  Overall, BGCA anticipates this effort will cost $10.5 million.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of America

Philadelphia, PA - $200,000 over one year to support the organization's effort to rebuild its services to young people affected by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. BBBSA will assist eight local agencies serving more than 4,250 youth recover from damage caused by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Short-term efforts include reconnecting young people with adult mentors and providing support to agencies in other states (primarily in Texas and Alabama) that have taken on large numbers of youth displaced by the hurricanes. Long term, BBBSA plans to reestablish its New Orleans agency. BBBSA estimates the recovery and rebuilding efforts will total $4 million.

President Obama Cites Four EMCF Grantees for Their Exemplary Programs


When the White House announced the creation of a Social Innovation Fund to support expanding “innovative, promising ideas that are transforming communities,” it cited as examples four grantees of the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation: Nurse-Family Partnership, Youth Villages, Harlem Children’s Zone and Citizen Schools.
