Harlem Children’s Zone Inc. (HCZ) works to “rebuild the very fabric of community life” through a comprehensive set of programs that engage local residents and community stakeholders to provide a safe learning environment and positive opportunities for children and families in New York City’s Harlem community. Serving over 10,500 youth this year, HCZ's many offerings include workshops for parents of children (newborn to three years old), early childhood education, charter schools, after-school and summer enrichment programming for youth, and help for teens to gain access to college or other post-secondary education opportunities.

EMCF Investment and Business Plan Highlights
Since 2000, the Foundation has invested $18.5 million in Harlem Children’s Zone to help develop and implement its business plan. HCZ has grown from serving 6,100 youth in 2000 to over 10,500 youth in Harlem today. By 2011, it plans to expand the number of youth served each year to 15,000. In addition, the HCZ Project has already expanded from 24 blocks in 2000 to 100 blocks. HCZ, Inc. also has begun efforts to increase its endowment to $150 million to solidify its long-term financial sustainability.
