To help organizations in the True North Fund fulfill their promise of improving the lives of greater numbers of young people, EMCF is collaborating with MDRC and the Bridgespan Group to provide comprehensive, best-in-class support in evaluation, business planning and strategy development. Both organizations worked closely with EMCF during the selection process that led to the recommendation and approval of nine initial grantees.
MDRC is a prominent developer and evaluator of interventions to improve the lives of low-income Americans. It will provide ongoing evaluation advice and support to EMCF, and in some instances undertake rigorous, independent evaluations of nonprofits in the True North Fund.
The Bridgespan Group is a leading provider of business-planning and capacity-building services to nonprofits. It is giving True North Fund grantees critical assistance in developing scenario-based growth plans that adjust for external economic and political contingencies.
The Edna McConnell Clark Foundation is investing up to $42 million over three years in nine organizations whose evidence-based programs promise to transform the life trajectories of thousands of low-income youth. In support of these grantees, the Foundation is establishing the True North Fund to leverage public money from the SIF and private money from the EMCF and institutional and individual philanthropic partners to effectively capitalize and expand programs that can serve more vulnerable young people.
