PLANS FOR GROWTH
Building on its success in expanding the Wendy’s Wonderful Kids program in Ohio and elsewhere, the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption (DTFA) is embarking on a 12-year Scaling Plan that aims to significantly increase adoptions nationwide and change the way our foster care system serves hard-to-place children.
DTFA has structured its plan in two phases. During the initial four years, it plans to expand the Wendy’s Wonderful Kids program in five states to what it calls “nearly full scale” and lay the foundation for long-term financial sustainability in these states. It will also enhance its performance management system, add personnel to support growth with quality, and continue to build its evidence base.
By 2028, the plan is expected to have resulted in close to 50,000 adoptions and $1.2 billion in cumulative savings to state and county child welfare systems. At the end of 12 years, the infrastructure will be in place to serve even more children, with government funding covering the bulk of the cost for delivering the Wendy’s Wonderful Kids model.
