Communities In Schools

Plans for Growth

Communities In Schools is on track to serve a total of 1.5 million youth annually by 2017, at least 10 percent of them with intensive, individualized services. CIS is beginning to plan its next phase of growth to take advantage of the Every Student Succeeds Act, which includes Integrated Student Supports (ISS) as a program supported by Title I funds. CIS is exploring not only how to accelerate its own growth but also how to augment this by bolstering the delivery of ISS within schools and encouraging other providers to offer evidence-based models.

Through a rigorous due diligence process, CIS has selected seven high-performing affiliates and will test whether strategic investments and intensive supports can help them saturate their markets and expand to new ones. In addition, CIS has identified three affiliates as Impact Communities and will test whether these “beacons of quality” exemplifying CIS’s potential to change young people’s lives can help validate ISS with policymakers and thought leaders in education and philanthropy.
